Shajingzi Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located in the southwest of the Yingan Village about 28 km to the east by north of the Keping County, Xinjiang. It was named by the Compiling Group for the Stratigraphic Chart of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and was cited publicly in 1981.
Lithology and Thickness
Clastics. Its lower and middle parts are composed of mainly light-grey, grey-green and variegated thick-bedded siltstone and siltstone, intercalated with sandstone and limestone. Its basal part consists of a 15-m-thick interbed of lenticular sandstone and conglomerate. The upper part is composed of thick-bedded calcareous siltstone and siltstone, intercalated with sandstone, with its top being intercalated with conglomerate. Thickness is 608.8 m.

Lower contact
Conformable contact with the purple basalt of the underlying Kaipaizileik Fm

Unconformable contact with the overlying Tertiary System
Regional extent
Distributed largely in the area of the Yingan piedmont. In the Sugongka area in the western part of Kepingtag the formation consists of red clay-rock and sandstone, with its lower part being intercalated with tuff, limestone and gypsiferous siltstone, with a thickness of 200-500 m, yielding limnogenic bivalves. In the northeast of the Keping County the Kaipaizileik Fm is possessed of a suite of 700-m-thick variegated clastic rocks.

Fossils
Its lower part yields Ostracoda represented by Darwinula jataskovae, D. obsoleta, D. limpida, Darwinuloides lenis, D. libita, D. puris, D. reniformis. The upper part yields Bivalves represented by Palaeomutela and Palaeanodonta sp., etc. In the Dachonggou section there occur Spore-pollen fossils represented by the Apiculatisporis-Verrucosisporites assemblage.
